“I hope this will inspire freedom and independence for the women coming to the shelter for help. I painted it after leaving an abusive relationship in 2001. To me, the thick, quick brushstrokes and vibrant colors symbolize the new found freedom and relief I had found. The empty vase represented the freedom I now had to fill my own vase with flowers, joy, life and love.”
